Orientation: Bisexual; trolls are blind to gender. However, it is worth noting that Kanaya is unique in that she has never been shown to be interested romantically (in a human sense) in any male character. This could just be a coincidence, though.

Personality:
In the world of homestuck, there is a group of creatures called Trolls, who live parallel from humans in a completely different time period and universe. The trolls we are introduced to all give off a very specific vibe when we first meet them; these vibes are influenced by the sign of the Western Zodiac they are inspired by. Kanaya, in particular, is obviously heavily influenced by her sign, Virgo.

To start with, Kanaya is seemingly a lot more mature than her troll friends. She behaves in a way that most would describe as 'classy', and compared to the others, she's actually pretty weird. She is interested in fashion, when most trolls are very utilitarian. There is no room for fashion in the barbaric world of trolls, but Kanaya is a lot more gentle and civilized. She also happens to be one of the few trolls with jade colored blood, which allows her to live on the surface of Alternia, and able to handle the harsh sun's rays. Due to her isolation, she developed a bit differently from the other trolls, especially due to her being raised by a Mother Grub.

One of the immediate things one might notice about Kanaya is how much she cares. But her caring can be a bit too much; like an overbearing mother. In fact, her last name is Arabic for 'The Virgin Mary', and she lives up to the name appropriately. Among the trolls, she has a reputation for 'meddling' in other people's affairs, and often plays the role of the resident auspistice, or mediator. She cares about her friends, though, so she always has good intentions. Still, it's easy to see how one would get annoyed with someone like Kanaya constantly monitoring you and breathing down your neck.

While Kanaya puts on the front that she's this classy mistress, she also has her moments of childishness. She is 13, like the other trolls, after all. She enjoys having fun and being silly, as well, such as when she is issued with the task of monitoring Rose, and she treats it as a completely ridiculous game. She's also quite bashful, demonstrated when she becomes noticeably embarrassed when a bucket appears on her screen (a highly sexual object in troll culture). She also enjoys 'trashy novels', as her friends call them, which are basically vampire novels. She wants to be one, and, once her Lusus dies, she actually tastes it's blood (obviously it tastes horrible and she spits it out.).

Kanaya also can be a very selfless person, especially when it comes to protecting her friends. She decisively cut off Tavros's legs, so that Equius could replace them with robotic ones, so he would have a better chance at surviving, due to being paraplegic. Yes, Kanaya has a very level head when it comes to situations that will affect her friends, proving that she lives up to her name and sign.

Kanaya may seem like a perfect troll, but she has quite a few flaws, as well. Due to her isolation, she has a bit of difficulty in describing herself through words; yes, Kanaya has a nice vocabulary, but she's unable to put it to use sometimes, such as when Vriska kisses Tavros. Vriska was completely unaware that Kanaya viewed her in a much more romantic way than just 'best friends', and Kanaya was unable to articulate this to her. So, Kanaya became unnecessarily cold towards her. Kanaya also has a habit of being passive aggressive, potentially a result of her being such a doormat. She lets everyone walk all over her and take advantage of her, and she never says anything about it. Basically, the decisiveness and level-headness she has when dealing with problems with her friends does not apply when she's dealing with her own problems. She knows a lot about giving advice, but can't seem to take her own. It's obvious it bothers her, but the only thing she does is make offhanded comments that sound more like jokes than anything. In fact, her doormat nature is what leads to a lot of problems for the trolls; she failed Vriska as a moirail by becoming especially cold to her, which led to her getting very out of hand. Likewise, she helped Eridan discover his role in the game out of kindness, but his role was the role of a destroyer, and thus went on a rampage, killing multiple of her friends. She's also unable to detect sarcasm, which becomes very apparent in her conversations with Rose.

After dying and coming back as a rainbow drinker, though, she begins to work on these flaws; she decides not to take anyone's crap anymore, and handles situations in her own, much more violent way, such as cutting down the ones who are causing the problem and kicking people in the nads. LIkewise, her meddling has developed into a much more pushy and bossy method, making her come across as a strict mother figure when 'counseling' her friends.
Abilites:  Kanaya is undead. That is, she's the troll equivalent of a vampire. Due to this, she has heightened senses and strength, as well as a permanent, literal glow to her. Along with this, as the Sylph of Space, she is the one able to breed frogs on her team. Basically, this means she is tasked with creating a universe. It's really complicated.

In terms of 'normal' abilities, Kanaya is an excellent seamstress, often creating outfits for herself and her less fashionable friends. She's also fond of gardening and interior design. She's quite handy as a doctor, of sorts, though she's not professionally trained. Still, she was able to 'extract' Tavros's legs so they could be replaced with robotic ones.

She's also quite the handy mediator! She plays auspistice for multiple of her friends, and helping her friends is what she lives for!

Third Person:
Perhaps the best thing about becoming a human was the value they placed on clothes. Some humans possibly loved them even more than Kanaya herself! That seemed so impossible, considering the trolls she typically associated with; they always wore such drab, utilitarian clothes. Kanaya hated it. So here she is in the mall, browsing about JCNickel's. She was already fond of it. She could roll in the colorful dresses and skirts, and flowy, sheer blouses. Of course, she did not do that. That would be rude. She considered doing it after purchasing them, however.

Migrating to the upper level (two floors of clothes!!), Kanaya was entranced by the sudden selection of bedspreads and baroque furniture. Her eyes began to glow like her skin formerly did, when she was a rainbow drinker. She could not resist. She flew forward, upon a particularly floral bed, and rolled and rolled, until her heart's content. She let out a sound of ecstasy, before realizing what she had done. She awkwardly sat up, rolled off the bed, and walked away in a hurry, straight out the door.

Kanaya never went to JCNickel's again.
